Fiat is about to bring to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show a crossover of the B segment named 500L.This model will debut on the European market in the last quarter of this year and will be build in Serbia in one of Fiat’s plants.
Fiat presented the first images of the new 500L just a few days ago announcing that they will most definitively bring this model to Geneva and that it will be available for eager buyers in the fall of 2012.The L letter at the end of its name comes from “Large” the main characteristic of this Italian compact.Fiat 500 L is qualified by its size to the B segment where it will compete with the Nissan Juke, Kia Venga, Kia Soul and other B segment crossovers.Despite its resemblance with the Fiat Panda the 500L is two feet longer which is a great improvement regarding interior space.
The new Fiat 500L is the descendant of the Multipla one of the most ugly and awful cars ever made. This model combined element from the subcompact class with SUV elements defying any conventional standards of the two segments but also combining the best of the two.Fiat 500L wants to become a distinct alternative to the traditional members of the B and C segments in the European market. This car is made for people that need a spacious five seater that offers great fuel economy without giving up on style.
The whole Fiat 500L range will debut at the end of 2012.This will include three engine choices: a Multijet II of 1.3 liters 4 cylinder and a 0.9 liters TwinAir turbo engine and the top of the range will be a MultiAir 1.4 making 150 HP.These engines make the promise to set new fuel efficiency standards in the segment’s niche without compromising the performance. This Italian crossover is about to be built at Kragujevac, Serbia. This car addresses to clients that desire Italian style and design while also getting versatility great ergonomics and a efficient range of engines delivering class leading fuel economy and performance.

I know, I know, it's a car, so technically, it doesn't have a personality at all. Even so, my 500 always feels like a cheerful, cheeky kind of car.
Still, you can't really tell unless you get behind the wheel I suppose.
I might be wrong on this, but I did wonder if this model is a response to how the 500's been doing in the US. Compared to Europe, I think the US prefers the larger car models. And as much as I love my 500, I know I'd struggle with it if I had a family to consider.
Hopefully, the 500L will catch on in the US. The TwinAir version is probably one of the more fuel efficient cars available, so that should be one thing that'll go down well. Even if you couldn't care less about the environment, everyone's going to want to get as far as they can on as little petrol as possible.
