Ford’s Electrification

Ford has a long tradition with hybrid cars, earlier models being sold as far back as 2004.Naturally most of Ford’s hybrid vehicles were sold in the United States. An example is the Ford Fusion, a mid-size sedan.I drove this car in Aachen around the research center and I’ve discovered a hybrid cars that is worth its money. This car costs approximately 30.000 Dollars.

Just like the Fusion we drove the Escape Plug-In around the Aachen research center and it impressed me because the combustion engine turns on rarely in an urban environment which allows you to get very high Mpg numbers for an SUV.I easily got more than 30 Mpg in an urban mode.

In Europe Ford has the following strategy. They’ve already introduced on sale on the German and British market the Ford Transit Connect Electric model following that in 2012 the Ford Focus electric to be launched. After the Focus the C-Max will be next with its two versions.

Transit Connect model was highly tested by Ford in the cities of Koln and London.During the testing the Transit’s were driven by some selected clients to see the way they behave in real day to day situations. They have drive in average 45 miles every day in an urban environment.Outside the city these cars are useless because of the small autonomy and that’s the biggest drawback.Anyway we wait the future electric models from Ford with great interest  since we don’t have anything better to do.

    >The advancements in electric cars has been impressive. Gone are the days when these plug-in cars were just slow, inefficient prototypes. Now, they are increasingly worth much more than a second look. I wouldn't be surprised if electric cars eventually turned out to be the standard way people get from A to B in the near future.

I honestly wasn’t expecting the idea of electric or hybrid cars to gain this much momentum so quickly. At this rate, we could be looking at full electrification in maybe a decade, give or take a few years.
