The Dutch company Donklervoort addresses to a very limited public that’s willing to pay for a purist car.The new Donkervoort D8 GTO will certainly be one of the most wanted exotic car of 2012.Not many remember the Lotus 7, a sports car that was dedicated to the driving experience.This heritage was later taken on by the British company Caterham.The Dutch company Donkervoort Automobilien took over the same recipe for success and made their models instant collectibles for connoisseurs.

For 2012 Donkeervoort has a brand new model:Donkervoort D8 GTO.This car is an evolution of the previous model.In fact the Dutch specialists claim that this is more than an upgrade and that it looks more like a completely new model.The new D8 GTO will be made in only 25 units per year, almost half of those already being ordered.D8 GTO is longer than the previous model by 12 inches and its a little bit wider also.The increase in size was necessary to adapt the new 2.5 Liter TFSI Audi engine used on the TT-RS and the RS3 although technically the D8 GTO took over more than 30% of the technical components of the D8 GT.The Dutch engineers modified the 5 cylinder engine of the germans in order for it to be 60 lbs lighter and to make a maximum of 400 HP.The 5 speed gearbox sends the power and the 450 NM of torque to the back wheels where with the help of a limited slip differential and an electronic stability control program the car is held under control.

The frame of the tubular chassis is build out of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber and the side panels are made of fiberglass.This makes the car so lights that it only weights between 1250 lbs and 1375 lbs depending on the options chosen.The power to weight ration of 2.21HP/KG is excellent.

Let’s talk about the performance figures ! The 0 to 60 time is 2.8 seconds and the top speed is rated around 155 Mph.This car can beat anything on a track (except an Atom V8 perhaps) because of its exceptional handling.Of course that for almost all people fuel economy isn’t very important if they wish to buy a car like this but even so Donkervoort managed to make this car get a combined 23 Mpg which translates in an 350 miles distance between every fuel stop.
Obviously your bank account needs to be quite large for a car like this.The starting price in Holland is 100.000 euros or 144.000 dollars.This Dutch exotic is about to be introduced officially on the market at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012.
