Chevy made public the first pics and info on the Sonic RS model, the American version of the Aveo.
Chevrolet Sonic will get a hot hatch version named RS.Chevrolet plans to launch this car at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show in January 2012.This is one of the very few hot hatch models ever sold on the North American market.
The exterior design and styling will certainly attract a lot of looks. The general aspect is deeply improved by the sports styling. The most important ingredient of this version is the engine. Its a 1.4 Liter four cylinder producing 138 HP.For some American clients it will probably make the car sound a bit underpowered but for most Europeans its more than enough.
Chevrolet Sonic RS displays a new set of bumpers for both the front and back ends, new fog lamps and air intakes but the most interesting detail is the double exhaust. In the back we have a discreet spoiler. There are available new 17 inch wheels adapted for better performance of this sports hatch.
The wild side of the Sonic RS will be held under control by a new safety system that comes standard with disk brakes,ABS,ESP,EBD, and other abbreviations. In the front the most noticeable component is the semi-independent MacPherson suspension system. The power will be sent to the wheels by a 5 speed manual gearbox. There is also available an optional six speed automatic transmission.
The interior has also been heavily improved.Chevrolet engineers added aluminum pedals and sport seats. They put in some interesting logos on the seats and wrapped everything in stitched leather. Even though there are no certain info about the arrival of the Sonic RS in Europe as an Aveo RS, Euro fans keep hoping.
The starting price is only 14.995 dollars for the base version which means this car will be really tempting considering that its even a little practical having 4 doors.
The Detroit Motor Show in 2012 promises to be something special with a few dozen highly expected premieres.
